Japan did indeed have a big prolog project, they were working on a big parallel Prolog system KI1 or KL1 or.. well, can't remember anymore... and that project is indeed dead now. But in any case, Prolog is still being heavily used in data mining (machine learning) applications, and research around that is very much alive. Ruben
