Subject: Does Ruby 1.8.0 improve in file I/O speed and pattern match speed	?

Hi, rubyists,

I'm using ruby 1.6.8 (2002-12-24) [i586-mswin32] and find file I/O too slow. Is ruby 1.8.0 faster? Some one in the list said speed is quite dependant on how ruby is compiled. Is that true?
