[ruby-talk:7901] rb2c: packaging solution?

I've continued to investigate ways for packaging ruby executables. I
first looked into python's freeze to see what it did; it appears to
create an executable containing the Python code converted to C. So I
decided to investigate rb2c. I downloaded 0.6.1, but I can't get it to
work. Here's what I do:

I don't know enough about ruby, or mkmf, to know what's going
on. Building ruby itself works, and many of the extensions seem to use
mkmf. Is there a more up-to-date version of rb2c floating around? Or,
how difficult would it be to patch this old version, which appears to
work with ruby 1.4.5?
