Configure should probably catch that, right? I configured it as ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/ruby-1.8.0-preview4 Btw, would it make sense to change the top-level directory in the tar file to "ruby-1.8.0-src" so that if people want to install to /usr/local/ruby-1.8.0 they can do so more easily?
