Finally I took a "config.h" generated for a Sparc10/solaris2.7 architecture and tried it unde Irix. I needed to add a : #define vfork fork to the solaris 2.7 "config.h" and then it compiled (though SGI's cc generated a ton of warnings). Bottom line: ruby finally compiled under Irix and 'make test' seems to have run successfully. But ... things shouldn't be this hard ... either there is something abnormal with my environment or the 'configure' script needs an update. If anyone else has experience installing ruby under Irix (or an idea of what the problem may be) please drop me a line. Thanks, Raja
