Back to the subject of the driver behavior itself, can you please make 
sure that it picks up environment variables correctly ($ORACLE_HOME, 
etc) when it comes to cron?

I don't remember if this is a Solaris specific issue or not, but on our 
Solaris boxes we have to add "/usr/bin/env ..." within the cron entry 
itself to get them to work properly.
