It's all in /? Just to add: there are concrete reasons for having / and /usr separate which are nothing to do with disks being historically expensive or unreliable. I want to be able to boot my system with the vast majority of it (/usr) unmounted - this lets me fsck /usr independently. If / contains only config files and the most essential system binaries, then there are more cases when I can boot the system and fix problems with other filesystems. Furthermore, / is unlikely to be written very often, which means it is less likely to become corrupted. (This assumes you keep /tmp as a separate directory :-) Regards, Brian.
