None of the above ;) Was using Richard Gooch's simpleinit; picked up a 
few tips from DJ Berstein's ramblings (amongst others) and wrote this 
system from scratch.

I've tried to address the major issues;

Speed
Reliability (automatic service restarts)
Comprehensive boot logs
Dependancy handling

This is very much work in progress, but it works nicely right now.
Did I mention its written in ruby?
