[ruby-talk:7151] Problem with MSVC-compiled Ruby On Win2k

I got the 1.6.1 sources and built it using MSVC 6 (SP3) on a Windows 
2000 Pro system. The build worked and so did the tests. It works in all 
respects except when executing a Thread#join. No matter the 
circumstance, executing a join on a thread aborts the interpreter with a 
deadlock. For example, this is some DRb code from the Ruby book:

require 'drb'

class TestServer
        def doit
                "Hello"
        end
end

test = TestServer.new
DRb.start_service("druby://localhost:9000", test)
DRb.thread.join

As soon as the DRb.thread.join is executed, here's the dump:

I've gotten the same thing with other threaded code as well. 

Now here's the interesting part: if I build from the same sources using 
Cygwin's gcc 2.95.2, the example above (and all others) works perfectly. 
I could use the cygwin version, but I don't want to have to use Unix 
pathnames (I've been out of the Unix world too long...). Has anyone 
successfully built and used 1.6.1 with MSVC 6 on Win2k? Do you have any 
pointers?
