Did you try yashi's code sample verbatim? Did it work on your system? If so, then you only need to figure out why his code works and yours doesn't. If not, then there would seem to be bigger problems. I haven't used GTK, but looked in my GTK+ book. They didn't cover set_style, or changing widget colors :-(. The only hint was a FAQ about changing the look of this or that widget. Their answer: don't. Let the user control the look at runtime, using themes.
