    If you look at line 94 where orig is set ("orig = true") you'll see that
it is inside a begin/rescue clause.  If the pstore file does not exist, and
read_only is false (the default), then the "orig = true" line will never be
executed and orig will be nil.  This allows orig to be used as a flag to
tell whether there was already a file there (true) or not (nil).  The code
appears to be correct.
