That works well (didn't know it existed).

Of course this means I will have to go over all my variables and remove
the 'empty' ones before calling #to_yaml. 

Like Anders Borch and Chris Pine, I wondered if I wouldn't be better
served using a Hash to implement my class (delegation).

A design decision to ponder ...
