It's because the more common use is to compare objects with their 
classes:

   case 1
   when Integer then 'int'
   ...
   end

How about using a Hash:

    ClassNames = { Integer => 'int', Strin => 'str' }
    ClassNames.default = '???'

    Classnames[Integer]   #-> int
