Remember, what we're talking about here is definitions.  Semantics.
The literal argument is important, if you wish to evaluate something
according to the definition.  If you don't wish to do that, then
that is fine, but that's a different discussion.  Dave is basically
saying "look, you can do this with static typing, too, so it's not
static."  The first part is, in fact, true, but the conclusion is
not, by definition, which requires literal interpretation.
