We will someday need the code, computational resources, etc, to make that. What we need *now* is more METADATA. I believe the first thing should be imposing standards on metadata. It should specify (to begin with): * info currently available in RAA * dependencies (including version numbers and revisions of the packages) * templatized information on how to install, to be completed later All this should be machine-parseable and extensible, yet as small and convenient as possible. This is essentially a .spec/ebuild(?)/debian control/etc builder. A system generic enough to provide the information needed for all possible platforms. Then some tool would process it and create the files needed by the native packaging tools. It would probably resemble an intelligent templating system. Guess we need some brainstorming to define what is really needed in the templates. Must be generic yet detailed enough. -- _ _ | |__ __ _| |_ ___ _ __ ___ __ _ _ __ | '_ \ / _` | __/ __| '_ ` _ \ / _` | '_ \ | |_) | (_| | |_\__ \ | | | | | (_| | | | | |_.__/ \__,_|\__|___/_| |_| |_|\__,_|_| |_| Running Debian GNU/Linux Sid (unstable) batsman dot geo at yahoo dot com On the Internet, no one knows you're using Windows NT -- Submitted by Ramiro Estrugo, restrugo@fateware.com
