Subject: Problems building 1.8

I'm trying to build the latest CVS version of 1.8 (checked out about 
14:45 EST) on my web host. When I'm dealing with the preview 
versions, everything works just fine. When I have to run autoconf, I 
can never get configure to run. In particular, I get:

% autoconf
% configure --prefix=<foo> # <foo> is my appropriate directory
configure: error: cannot run /bin/sh ./config.sub

I'm using autoconf 2.54; is this correct? I'm not sure where this 
error comes from or why it shows up for CVS versions (where I have to 
run autoconf) as opposed to the previews or releases (where I don't).
