From: Nathaniel Talbott Date: 2000-12-04T12:31:16+09:00 Subject: [ruby-talk:6788] Gtk, Ruby & Cygwin I have some ambitions to do some GUI programming in Ruby, so I wanted to get Gtk up and running my Windows 2000 box. No problem, right? Hah. But I have managed to get it (mostly) working. Ive recompiled ruby/gtk for $ ruby -v ruby 1.6.2 (2000-11-17) [i386-cygwin] and Cygwin DLL version info: dll major: 1001 dll minor: 6 dll epoch: 19 build date: Tue Nov 21 21:00:16 EST 2000 (I think this all translates to 1.1.6, which is what W2k reports) with pretty good success. I had to muck around pretty heavily in the extconf.rb (which edits Ill pretty up and submit if I get motivated) to get things to build, but I finally did get it to work. The one significant change I had to make to the ruby/gtk code was in global.h and rbgdkwindow.c. In global.h I had to comment out #include and in rbgdkwindow.c I had to comment out static VALUE gdkwin_root_window(self) VALUE self; { return INT2NUM(GDK_ROOT_WINDOW()); } and the method definition for the same in Init_gtk_gdk_window(), because gdkx.h, and thus GDK_ROOT_WINDOW(), are not defined, since Im obviously not on X. Unfortunately, root_window() (the ruby name gdkwin_root_window() is tied to) is used, at least in testgtk.rb. So, my question is, is there an alternative for GDK_ROOT_WINDOW() that I should use on W2k? If not, whats the right fix? Do we even need root_window() (Im not even sure what its useful for; I know next to nothing about gtk [yet]).
