Can't one just alias initialze and rededine it?

module ThreadSafe
  alias __tsinit initialize

  def initialize(*args)
    @__tsmutex = Mutex.new
    __tsinit(*args)
  end
  def __send__(*args)
    @__tsmutex.synchronize { super(*args) }
  end
end
