From: Klaus Stein Date: 2003-02-07T21:16:45+09:00 Subject: Gtk and locale I found irb behaving weird with german locale and gtk. It seems to me the gtk module somehow messes up the parser: /tmp >echo $LANG de_DE /tmp >irb irb(main):001:0> 2.5*3 7.5 # everything's normal irb(main):002:0> require "gtk" # fetch gtk true irb(main):003:0> 2.5*3 # same as above 6,0 # ??? (mind the , !) irb(main):004:0> "7.5".to_f # same effect 7,0 irb(main):005:0> "7,5".to_f # oh, this works? 7,5 irb(main):006:0> 7,5 # but this doesn't SyntaxError: compile error (irb):6: parse error from (irb):6 /tmp >irb -v irb 0.7.4(01/05/08) /tmp >ruby -v ruby 1.6.7 (2002-03-19) [i386-linux] (all packages are debs from debian linux) In Germany the decimal point in fact is a comma. But this shouldn't change the behaviour of a programming language (and it doesn't until gtk is used). [ I remember netscape had a similar problem with postscript and locale ] Is this a bug or do i have to change some settings (but where?) Thanx a lot, Stony (42) -- ====================================== The Answer is 42. And I am the Answer. Now I am looking for the Question. ======================================
