i'm sorry i ever said that b/c it misdirected the conversation, and was far 
from my point. i wasn't ever suggesting breaking things. i was only saying 
that %L did not need to support appending ,x just because HERE docs did. 
that's all. but i also see that it would be better if they did so i would 
just like to see a solution rather than abandoing the whole idea, which many 
agreed was good for HERE docs in the first place.
