Ah, so this is where Ruby's here-doc implementation deviates from the
shell ... okay.

Perl, being Evil, gives you hackery like this:

(my $x = <<EOT) =~ s/^\t*//gm;
    this is
    a test
EOT

Which roughly approximates the <<-word here-doc behavior of the shell,
which strips leading tabs off lines in the here-doc.

I guess one could apply a similar regexp in Ruby as well ...
