ANNOUNCEMENTS ============= archive-tarsimple-0.1.0 Daniel Berger has released a simple tar/zip interface. Get tarsimple([1]). INTERESTING THREADS =================== mod_ruby - what is persistent and what is shared? Ever wondered exactly what is persistent and what is shared when you are doing mod_ruby development? This thread discusses what the issues are and what some possible solutions are. Ruby does not have enough libraries? Ruby is often said to be great, but lacks the equivalent of CPAN. David Alan Black asked the Ruby community if it is possible to identify exactly which modules are missing from Ruby. He asked this comment in hopes of collecting a list of the libraries desired so they could be written. This turned into a rather large thread with some of it answering David's original question while some of it digressing around build systems and package management issues. An interesting read. Hash#+? The topic again has been asked if Hash#+ should exist. It was proposed that perhaps it would be better to have a Hash#| method with either the first or second Hash (undecided which yet) will take precedence and the other value will be lost when collisions with keys occur. ModuleBuilder A group of Denver based Ruby enthusiasts have started a project that would fill the same role as the Perl module Module::Build. Many nice features, read them over and submit your wish list while the project is young. Project page here([2]). Our own CPAN Once again the letters C P A N come to the Ruby community again as we discuss what might be nice for the Ruby community here. For those wanting CPAN'ish tools for Ruby you will want to read this small thread. References 1. http://ruby-miscutils.sourceforge.net/ 2. http://ModuleBuilder.sf.net/
