Apparently NO.

I just ran some small wc(1) clones I have written in Perl/Python/Ruby.
Counting the # characters/lines in the Ruby source took:

     0.28 s       C            Visual Studio 6
     1.18 s       Python       ActivePython 2.2.1 Build 222
     1.56 s       Perl         5.005_03 (ActiveState build 518)
    33.68 s       Ruby         ruby 1.6.8 (2002-12-24) [i586-mswin32]


What should we poor Windows users do ?
Switch back to Perl/Python ?
