Well, apparently you have a very special case where ruby take most of its times in compile phase rather than runtime phase. Yes array parsing can be improved and you'll have a faster compile phase, but if you try this (with the restriction of 5 pointer size) I think that the problem will be reported at runtime, i.e. you'll have a faster compile phase but with a slower runtime phase and more the ratio compile/runtime is low more you'll see a difference.
