Yes, I understand their motivations.  But the fact remains that if they
release a library under the GPL it can legally be ported to Windows as
long as it remains GPL.

Come to think of it, perhaps it's just that the port would take too much
work.  It probably would.  And people probably also want to respect
Trolltech's decision.

Yes I remember.  I think it was a smart decision to make QtFree available
under the GPL as well.

Thanks, I read it.  But my question is not there (nor did I expect it to
