$mflags[0].sub!(/^(?=\w+)$/, "-") unless mflags.empty?

should be:
$mflags[0].sub!(/^(?=\w+)$/, "-") unless $mflags.empty?
                                         ^^^

Missing global variable specifier.
Otherwise, this snapshot would not compile.
