Just to add a little more to that.

Safari is used by a number of publishers and sites. You can also access 
safari via informit (safari.informit.com) and it has excactly the same 
content.

Essentially its a bunch of publishers and someone else that decided that 
it was a good idea to "rent" books on a monthly basis. I've used it a 
little and its quite good, quite useful if you are trying to find 
something quickly.

I will admit now, that I created a copy of the ruby way as a word doc 
(copy and pasted the pages from the website) last week. Don't worry Hal 
you haven't lost out on a sale, I will be buying the book in the new 
year once my finances have recovered from Xmas.
