Or have I missed > something... I experienced the same error on Solaris when doing require 'irb' and then IRB::start $STDOUT I have started several threads in between. I did not investigate what was the reason for the problem, I just put "sleep 1" right before IRB::start and this helped. My understanding is that there's some lazy loading involved and in multi-threaded environment timing makes big difference. However it would be nice to get to the core of the problem.
