That never works, because the newbies think to themselves, "My
question is not easy, it's hard, therefore I'll ask the gurus or the
hard questions area."  "beginners" groups can have similar problems.

MMV, obviously.  I like being able to say, "CGI questions are answered
over there, Tk questions over here, database queries (pun intended)
over there.  Hrm, my question is on database stuff, so I'll ask in
comp.lang.ruby.dbi (or whatever)."
