The Associated Press SEATTLE (AP) - Internet retailer Amazon.com quietly launched its clothing store on its Web site Thursday, encouraging current customers to preview the store before it opens it to the broader public. In an e-mail to existing customers, Amazon.com chief executive Jeff Bezos said the apparel and accessories store offers more than 400 major clothing brands including Gap, Old Navy, Nordstrom, Eddie Bauer and Target. The project, code-named Ruby, is not yet accessible from the main Amazon.com Web site. However, spokesman Bill Curry said anyone can access and use the store by going through http://www.amazon.com/ruby. Curry declined to comment further or say when Ruby might be added to the Seattle-based company's home page. In his e-mail, Bezos also offered customers $30 off purchases of $50 or more. Online sales of clothing, including footwear and accessories, are expected to climb from $4.2 billion in 2001 to $5.2 billion this year, according to Forrester Research of Cambridge, Mass. By 2007, they should reach $22.5 billion. Source:The NandoTimes ===== -- Yahoo IM: michael_s_campbell __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
