Subject: 1.8 release?

Sorry if this has been discussed to death, but I found no concrete mention
on -talk since message 35000-odd.

What is the release plan for 1.8?  What does it depend on?  Are there problems
with 1.7?  It's just that a number of good things have been added to 1.7 and it
would be nice to see them officially released.

Just wondering, not pressing.
