A university professor was going to have a joint proposal with a company on a technical study on a next generation satellite system. A manager of the company asked the professor to contribute some input on the proposal. So the professor sent the manager a Latex document containing a bunch of equations. The manager was mad because he could not simply combine the Latex document into his Microsoft Word document. Even after some effort that eventually resulted in the inclusion of the Latex document in the MS Word, the manager was still mad because the equations did not say anything to him; the manager wanted something that he and the people whom they were sending the proposal to could understand and appreciate. But for the professor, equations were the best way to express ideas as equations were very concise and did not result in any ambiguity. That's it. It is just a story.
