But American punctuation has traditionally differed (except among many hackers, who use the non-US form for logic's sake). As for me, I was saddled with a mother who taught (American) English, so that getting things "right" was almost a moral imperative. Actually, sometimes I will rephrase a sentence just to avoid ending with a quoted word (much as I will rephrase in order to avoid putting a UNIX command at the front of a sentence and deal with capitalization issues). :) Of course, even Americans put punctuation outside the quotes in many cases. The semicolon, exclamation point, and question mark always go outside unless there is a specific reason to put them inside. Only the comma and period are really the issue. And I now I really WILL drop this topic which is so boring to so many. Hal
