The answer is bureaucracy and establishment.  C is stardardized by formal
bodies (ANSI/ISO) and there is just too much legacy code.

I think the situation is rather different in the open source/free software
area.  I will try the minimalist approach just for myself (because of my
previous good experience with Python).
