This may imply that it was not designed with other good things in mind either - it's aim is something different from high-level programming. Obviously, no collection of macros will make up for that. Regarding extensive computational power, I recently examined some C code performing some numerical work that I had independently implemented in Ruby. I was so amazed at how much more efficient it (the C program) was.
