Someone mentioned Cream here a while ago, and I gave it a shot.  It does
give Vim a simpler set of keyboard commands (e.g., it seems to keep you in
one mode all the time, no matter what you try to do), but (as I recall) at
the expense of other Vi-like behavior.  I really couldn't tell you offhand
just what problems I had, but I decided to go back to plain-old-Vim (with
various macros).

Having gotten used to hitting ESC for various purposes, I found it weird to
find  myself blocked from switching modes.  (Of course, I now try to save
documents in MS Word by hitting ESC :w, , so perhaps I need to create Vi
mappings in VBA ... )
