The TkCanvas widget rocks. 

I (PhlIp) wrote a "MageticPoetry" clone with it:

Of course a mere program can never hold a candle to a couple of real 
Magnetic Poetry (tm) sets on an intellectual's refridgerator, but the 
architecture of my game is ready for enhancements where a fridge can't go.
