Define "good" ;-)  We have at least 20 Ruby books here.

For your collection, I recommend the Japanese pocket reference from
O'Reilly Japan.  It'small, cheap (1000 JPY), and royalty goes to me.

I saw two shelves filled with Ruby books at the bookstore in Akihabara
Tokyo, today (I guess it's the same store where Michael visited).
Your relative can get them at any reasonable sized bookstore, I think.
