From: Marc Rene Arns Date: 2002-05-30T04:23:21+09:00 Subject: object-name = content of a variable (migration from perl) Hi to all, perhaps someone could help me: I'm new to programing and ruby as well and I want to convert a PERL-Script, I've recently written into ruby. In the Perl-script, I produced in a while-loop every time a different array who's name came from a variable counting every time higher, something like that $i = 1; while ($i < 10){ @{$i} = (several, changing, variables); $i = $i+1; } so that I got a set of arrays @1, @2, and so on Now I want to do the same thing in ruby, but I found no way to do it. Instead of arrays I think it would be better to deal with objects, so I want something like this: p = name i = 1 while (i < 10) o_name = p+i CL_name.new(variable, depending, parameters) = o_name i += 1 end but it doesnt work like expected. Excuse me if it is a stupid question, but is there a way in ruby to define: - a variable who's name cames from the value of another variable (in PERL: ${$variable}) - an array who's name cames from the value of a variable (in PERL: @{$variable}) - an object who's name cames from the value of a variable/ a value of an object-parameter I searched everywhere and I didn't find an answer yet. Sorry for my bad english greetings, m. rene arns
