I think I'll have to read about creating makefiles (I thought they're 
used to compile bigger projects, so that not everything gets recompiled 
each time. I ran the command make etc often (for example when installing 
Ruby), but I never wrote makefiles).

On my WinME system, there seems to be no make or nmake:

not found nmake.exe, make.exe

C:\WINDOWS>make
Befehl oder Dateiname nicht gefunden.
C:\WINDOWS>nmake
Befehl oder Dateiname nicht gefunden.
C:\WINDOWS>nmake.exe
Befehl oder Dateiname nicht gefunden.
C:\WINDOWS>start nmake
Die Datei 'nmake' oder eine ihrer Komponenten wurde nicht gefunden.
Pr�fen Sie, ob der Pfad- und Dateiname richtig angegeben wurde
und ob alle erforderlichen Bibliotheken verf�gbar sind.

(meaning: not found)

For my project, I want to pack a script with it that people can run, on 
any of the popular OSes. Perhaps I'll distribute it with a .bat *and* 
.sh, like some Apache projects do.
