Subject: Arbitrary argument list to getoptlong?

Is there a way to pass getoptlong (or equivalent?) an arbitrary
argument list, instead of having it get from the standard input?

I'm implementing a tiny general purpose command line interface which
uses readline and it would be nice to empower all its commands with
option parsing.
