OK, Eclipse runs now. I copied the dirs to eclipse/plugins, so that I 
now have
eclipse/plugins/org.rubypeople.rdt.debug.ui
                 org.rubypeople.rdt.core
                 org.rubypeople.rdt.launching
                 org.rubypeople.rdt.ui

but (after restarting Eclipse, )'File -> New -> Other' brings CVS, Java, 
Plug-In Development, and Simple. No Ruby.

Are you checking out RubyEclipse? Is it cool?
