A backslash is used to quote the following character so it transforms it into a non-printable character. For example: "\t" is a tab (ONE character, ascii 9) "\b" is a backspace (ONE character, ascii 8) "\a" is a bell character (ONE character, ascii 7) "\e" is an escape (ONE character, ascii 27) AND "\\" is a backslash (ONE character, ascii 92) I don't know what else to write...
