I prefer bracket notation because it works anywhere in an array

a = [*'a'..'e'] # => ["a", "b", "c", "d", "e"]

# start_index, length
a[0, 3] # => ["a", "b", "c"]

# start_index..end_index
a[0..3] # => ["a", "b", "c", "d"]
