Another way, if you only want to remove the first instance:

>> myunwantedword = "Hello"
=> "Hello"
>> myphrase = "Hello world"
=> "Hello world"
>> output = myphrase.dup
=> "Hello world"
>> output[myunwantedword] = ""
=> ""
>> output
=> " world"
>>

Or you can use slice! instead of []=

>> output.slice!(myunwantedword)
=> "Hello"
>> output
=> " world"
