Thank you for the pointer! Too bad it does not support encodings which is probably a show stopper for inclusion in the core lib. At least as standard regexp engine it's not usable. Apparently boost regexp's support Unicode but I guess adjustment need some effort - and then the question is whether performance gains are still so big.
