Subject: Installing ncurses on Windows

I've heard it's virtually impossible to get working on Windows but I'd
really like to get something like that working because I'm making a text
adventure and using gets gets annoying.

Are there any alternatives that anyone can suggest?

It can be very simple, just a (scrollable, maybe?) text pane and a
1-line text editor for command input.
