I use a /large/ number of addresses (inbound and outbound), but I use mutt to send mail so it's not a headache. I'm on lists with wide-open spam-me-please policies (this one and a couple of linuxuniversity lists) down to extremely tight policies (linux-elitists requires not only subscribed addresses but use of a non-proprietary mail client) and fully moderated lists. With the right tools it's trivial to manage such things. The point is there's a tradeoff -- receive spam through the list because it's wide open or have people actually manage their mailing tools. To me it makes little difference -- I use spamassassin, procmail, and mutt; so I don't see the spam and can jump through any policy hoops by tweaking a line in a config file.
