Sure, every language more or less "works", but don't tell me there is no
difference between 500 lines of Java code and 100 lines of Ruby code
doing the same thing.

Don't tell me that

"public static final void foo bar ohLordSaveMeFromVerbosity(String
myArg, int myOtherArg)"

is just the same as

"def my_method my_arg, my_other_arg"

Don't tell me that

"(1..100).select &:odd?"

isn't any more clear or concise than

"
ArrayList myArrayList = new ArrayList<Integer>();
for (int i = ...; i <= 100; ... i++)
    if (i % 2 ...)
        yadda yadda yadda
"

When you've spotted the difference, then we might actually discuss how
different languages encourage different programming styles (though I'm
probably the least qualified person to talk about that).

Of course, there isn't some kind of "style bible" saying exactly what 
"The Ruby way" is. But like any other language, Ruby encourages some 
pracices (like object oriented and functional programming) and 
discourages others (like low level spaghetti code).

If that's all academical nonsense to you and you "just want to get 
things done", then simply stick to your FORTRAN and be happy. :-)
