If I have a choice between writing:

puts "a = #{a}\n"\
     "b = #{b}"

and

$stdout << "a = " << a << "\nb = " << b << "\n"

which is clearer?  C++ fans might prefer the second, while I prefer the 
first.  In any case, I'm glad to hear the first happens to be faster, as 
well :).
